Roaming Photographer FAQs
The one downside to the traditional photo booth is that it's stationary. But what if the experience could be taken to the guest, instead of waiting for the guest to engage?
What is the difference between this and regular event photography? Our roaming photographers are laser focused on guest interaction and making sure they have great content to post on social media and remember the event by. We still get a few b-roll shots and images of decor, but our main priority is capturing smiling faces. Our photos are instantly sharable via text and email, and customized with a photo overlay created just for each event (hello, extra branding!). The added element of instant sharing increases our clients’ brands’ visibility online during the event. With traditional event photography, you have to wait a couple days to get photos back from your event photographer, and fewer people will share images after the event. Our guests want instant gratification, and we can give it to them!
What kinds of events do we typically shoot? SXSW events, corporate functions, birthday parties, sweet sixteens, bar and bat mitzvahs, app launch parties, company holiday parties, brand activations, and even weddings and rehearsal dinners.
What type of photos should I expect to take? Every event is different, but mostly photos of people smiling at the camera! We suggest trying to get at least one image of each person, then going back and taking more of people who really want more. Sometimes, we are set in a stationary position, like a meet and greet, in which case the goal is to photograph as quickly as possible! If possible, you’ll grab some detail shots, and maybe a shot of the venue, but these are not contractually promised, just nice to provide if we’re able to.
What type of equipment should I expect to bring? At least one camera body, lots of batteries, whatever lens you prefer for close-range portraits (we suggest something around 35 mm), a flash and an off-camera flash if you are comfortable using one.
What should I wear? We request photographers wear something modest and all black unless otherwise noted. Sometimes we do events with cool themes and clients let us dress up, which is fun! Always wear comfortable shoes.
What is the process like for being an Oh Happy Day Booth roaming photographer? You’ll first need to get our gear, which consists of a company phone, a special SD card, and a power bank. We will completely prep the gear, and you will set it up on site. Usually it is as easy as turning it on and going, but if there are issues, we are there to help and we also have a software support line. While shooting, you’ll have the chance to offer for guests to text their photo to their phones following each photo. Guests only have to enter their number once during the event, and after that all their images will go into the gallery link that was sent to them originally.
